TGIF Fun Fridays: Friends With Benefits Edition!

Greetings, gentle readers, and a very happy Friday to you!

Before I begin this week’s roundup of all the quirky delights that have been happening all around and outside of the 17th floor, I just thought I should let you know that next week I’ll be taking a short leave from TGIF.

I know, I know – it’s hard to imagine that anyone who has entered the warm bosom of Jugnoo would ever want to leave, but I am making a long, laborious trek to Morocco and Italy for two weeks. Poor me.

Shout-outs to Sprout Up: Jugnoo Does #YISTO

If you haven’t been to a Sprouter event in Toronto, you are really missing out!

An ongoing monthly Meetup series, SproutUp shines a spotlight on technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation – so it was obvious that we just had to sponsor June’s Young Innovators Showcase last night!

There’s almost nothing we enjoy more than getting the opportunity to talk about JugnooMe, and when you have those conversations with some of the best and the brightest young startups out there, as well as some of the city’s finest entrepreneurial minds… well, let’s just say that it was an evening to remember.

Team Social was at the center of the action, promoting Social Mix 2012 (have you got your ticket yet?), demonstrating the slick new JugnooMe features, and making sure that everyone was properly lubricated with our custom cocktail – the JugBlue!

A big thank you to Jon Spenceley and the SproutUp team for making us feel so welcome – it was our pleasure to be a part of the Young Innovators Showcase.

Not-So-Top-Secret Projects Are Underway!

On Wednesday, Team Social took a field trip to Kensington Cornerstone, an entirely gluten-free (and entirely groovy) restaurant to film yours truly as part of a brand new project. We won’t reveal too much today – oooh, the suspense! – but we will say this: keep your eyes squarely on our YouTube channel for a special preview, and your notebook handy to jot down all the social media questions you’ve just been too busy to ask. Has that got your curiousity piqued?

Team Jugnoo, Divided: Best Frenemies

A chasm has begun to divide the office. There are murmurs of a battle brewing deep below the cheerful surface of Jugnoo, as two of the very best of friends prepare to throw down the gauntlet*.

What could be the reason, the motivation, that has torn project manager Timothy Bramble and Mat Meir, director of acquisition, asunder? Why, it’s a pair of sunglasses. Naturally.

I should explain: Jugnoo’s headquarters are situated comfortably above Toronto’s PATH system, which means that we generally have quick access to almost any amenity we could require, just below the city surface. This includes a Josephson’s Opticians, located at the bottom of the escalators. Lured by the siren song of designer eyewear, Timothy and Mat decided to enter their mugs into their ‘Share Your Style and Win’ Facebook contest.

Ever since, there has been an active voter campaign from both sides, showered in a flurry of ‘likes’, which has left all of us wondering who will emerge victorious. This is easily the biggest throwdown between a blonde and a brunette since Betty and Veronica – but, like Highlander, there can be only one.

So, what say you, gentle readers? Is it Timothy with his slick Mykita aviators? Or Mat, with his tortoiseshell Beausoleil beauties?

*Disclaimer: Mat and Timothy would like to make it very clear that they are still BFFs, and that there isn’t a luxury good known to mankind that would ever cause a rift in that relationship. So, sometimes I take liberties. Two pals just entering a contest isn’t very interesting, is it?
